Heading east into the sunrise (after launching from the Dinner Key boat ramp)
One of the most beautiful ways to explore our treasured waters is by Stand Up Paddleboard (aka SUP).
I find that SUP provides 3 distinct benefits…
1) It’s a great workout.
2) One sees amazing sea life when approaching it quietly on a paddleboard. I regularly see manatees, spotted eagle rays and sting rays in Biscayne Bay and the Coral Gables Waterway. A few months ago at the mangroves near Key Biscayne’s Crandon Golf Course, something caught my eye 40 feet away. I paddled over slowly to see what it was. It looked gold in the afternoon sun against the green backdrop of the seaweed bottom. It was a 7 foot nurse shark (generally thought to be a non-aggressive shark). It was slowly swimming along the bottom (the water was 4 feet deep near the mangroves). For 5 minutes, I paddled parallel to it. This was an amazing event that I would not have experienced if I had a motor on the boat.
3) Experiencing Miami’s most beautiful waterfront properties by paddleboard gives one a unique perspective on South Florida’s luxury real estate market.
